- Director / Solicitor
Tim serves as the Legal Practitioner Director of HTW Legal Group Pty Ltd (HTW Legal). Since being admitted as a solicitor, he has gained extensive experience across various areas of law, representing clients both domestically and internationally.
With over a decade in the legal profession, Tim recognised the opportunity to offer more to his clients. This realisation led him to establish HTW Legal in 2020, where his mission is to deliver exceptional legal advice, top-notch service, and a personalised experience. His dedication has earned him a reputation as a trusted strategic advisor for his clients.
Tim specialises in major commercial and residential property development matters. Having grown up in the Brisbane-Gold Coast region, he possesses valuable insider knowledge that has greatly benefited clients undertaking development projects in the area. Whether handling multi-million dollar residential developments, multi-tenant commercial properties, or retail shopping centers, Tim’s primary focus is on empowering his clients by providing the expertise and representation needed to achieve profitable outcomes.
Throughout his career, Tim has also successfully represented numerous clients in civil litigation, investment migration, and general property matters.
Beyond his legal work, Tim is an accomplished pianist, having dedicated 25 years to honing his skills. In his free time, he enjoys exploring his passion for music and creativity. Additionally, Tim is an avid foodie, often sampling the Gold Coast’s finest cafés and restaurants. In recent times, his culinary adventures have become more home-focused since he recently welcomed a cavoodle named Mei Mei into his life.

Desmond Lieu

Desmond is admitted to the Supreme Court of Victoria as a solicitor.
Desmond’s areas of practice are property law (commercial and residential conveyancing, property development, leasing and project management), commercial (franchising, company structures and compliance, intellectual property, tax advice and sale and acquisition of businesses) and commercial litigation.
Desmond is focused on providing prompt, concise service and advice to his clients.
In his spare time Desmond enjoys reading science fiction novels.

David Richmond
- Associate
David brings over 25 years of legal experience across multiple jurisdictions, offering deep expertise and a client-centered approach to every case. His diverse career spans personal injury law, complex commercial litigation, and beyond, with a strong focus on providing practical, results-driven legal solutions.
Admitted as a solicitor in England in 2008, David relocated to Australia in 2013, gaining admission as a solicitor in New South Wales in 2015 and Queensland later in 2018. David is also armed with prior experience of running his own private practice, specializing in property and commercial litigation, insurance disputes, and the drafting and reviewing of commercial contracts.
David is dedicated to understanding his clients’ unique needs and providing tailored advice that aligns with their objectives. His goal is to streamline the legal process, offering clear guidance to help clients navigate each stage with confidence.
Outside of work, David enjoys property renovation, playing golf, swimming, and running. He also takes full advantage of Australia’s beautiful coastal lifestyle, often unwinding by the beach.

Benyan Wang
- Solicitor
Benyan joined the team at HTW Legal starting as an intern, then as a PLT student while completing her legal studies at Bond University.
Benyan moved to the Gold Coast in 2021 to pursue her passion for law. In Beijing, she earned a Bachelor of Fashion Design and subsequently worked as a fashion designer.
Benyan prides herself on her dedication to her clients and managing cases with a keen eye for detail because of her previous work experience.
In her spare time, she enjoys watching movies and trying different cuisines from all over the world.

Ton Chau
- Special Counsel
Ton is a migration lawyer at HTW Legal. Ton was admitted as a solicitor of the Queensland Supreme Court in 2014. He completed his Bachelor of Law in the University of Queensland, before the Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice in Bond University.
Ton has practiced exclusively in migration law. He grew up in Hong Kong and is fluent in Cantonese and English. He has worked with leading national corporations and has a strong reputation and proven success rate particularly on employer-sponsored visas and investment visas. Turning to other visa cases, Ton has an interest in criminal law and has succeeded in having visas reinstated after they were cancelled due to character concerns and criminal records.
Ton has developed practical and down-to-earth advice to clients. He understands the difficulties and the needs of clients during the process and strives to make the process clear, simple, fast and stress-free.

Nicholas Chang

Nicholas was admitted as a Solicitor in the Supreme Court of Queensland in
2012. Backed with a wide range of experience in corporate commercial,
business advisory and property matters, Nicholas joined the HTW Legal on it’s
incorporation in 2020.
Regularly acting on behalf of his overseas clients as their international legal
counsel, Nicholas has extensive experience in international law, specifically in
the Asia Pacific regions.

Daniel mak
– Business Development Manager
Daniel holds a Diploma in Law and a Bachelor’s degree in Banking and Finance, equipping him with a diverse skill set that spans across multiple disciplines.
With over five years of experience as a relationship manager in the banking industry, Daniel has honed his expertise in managing client relationships and navigating complex financial landscapes. His career journey took an exciting turn in early 2023, when he relocated to Australia, where he further expanded his professional repertoire by gaining experience in finance brokering and real estate.
With a passion for innovation and an affable personality, Daniel is not just focused on hitting numbers but also on fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement in the workplace.

Janiva Leung

Moving back to the Gold Coast in recent years, Janiva was hired as a legal secretary in Hong Kong mainly supporting a top-tier litigation practice with a focus on arbitration, insolvency, and shipping.
Janiva started her legal journey in the early 1990s working in the banking department of a legal firm based in Sydney. She then moved to Hong Kong where she worked as a legal secretary in a top-tier litigation practice with a focus on arbitration, insolvency, and shipping.
Now back on the Gold Coast, Janiva is highly regarded by our clients for her pleasant demeanour, making them feel welcomed and assured every time they visit our firm.
In her spare time, Janiva enjoys baking delicious treats and watching Korean dramas.

Meimei, our beloved Cavoodle and the Office Chief of Happiness at HTW. Born in October 2022, Meimei became a cherished member of our office family in December of the same year. Since then, she has been diligently providing a sense of security to the entire office, ensuring everyone stays on track.
Meimei’s role goes beyond just security; she is a master at spreading joy and happy vibes throughout the firm.
Her playful and affectionate nature brings smiles to everyone at HTW, making her an essential part of our positive and uplifting work environment.
