Timothy Hsieh

- Director / Solicitor

Tim is the Legal Practitioner Director of HTW Legal Group Pty Ltd (HTW Legal). After being admitted as a Solicitor, Tim immersed himself in a variety of areas of law, representing both domestic and international clients.
After almost 10 years in the legal industry, Tim saw there was more he could give to his clients and so to give scope to pursue his vision he opened HTW Legal in 2020. With his focus on providing his clients with sound legal advice, superior service and a personable experience, Tim has earned himself a reputation of being his client’s go-to strategic advisor.

Tim has a particular interest in major commercial and residential property development matters. Tim grew up in and around Brisbane and the Gold Coast, gaining strong and valuable insider knowledge of the area that has proven to be an asset to his clients considering and carrying out their development projects. Whether acting on multi-million dollar residential developments, multi-tenanted commercial properties or retail shopping centres, Tim’s number one focus has always been to empower his clients by providing the knowledge and representation needed to bring their ventures to a profitable conclusion.

During his career, Tim has also successfully represented many clients in civil litigation, investment migration & general property matters.

Tim is also a talented and passionate Pianist. Having studied and played piano for 25 years, his free time is often spent refining his skills and letting his creative juices flow.

In addition, Tim is a self-proclaimed ‘foodie’. He can often be found sampling the delicious menus of the Gold Coast’s best cafés and restaurants. Since he recently became a dog-dad to Cavoodle Mei Mei, his culinary adventures have been curtailed and dining in has become a lot more popular in his house!

Greg Porter

- Senior Associate

Greg is admitted as a lawyer in New South Wales, Western Australia and Queensland. He has been entered in the High Court Register of Practitioners entitling him to appear in all Federal Courts of Australia.

Over the past 40 years Greg has practiced as a senior associate, consultant and Principal in both boutique and top tier firms, as well as in his own practice.

Greg’s experience is in the areas of Commercial Property, General Commercial and Company Law and Commercial Litigation. He is currently focusing his efforts on the firm’s commercial litigation practice.

Greg is committed to resolving his client’s legal issues in a practical, individually appropriate and cost-effective manner bearing in mind the sage adage that a good lawyer is the one who is ”able, affable and available albeit not necessarily in that order.”

His interests outside of the law are writing and the quixotic quest for the perfect shiraz.

Ton Chau

- Special Counsel

Ton Chau is a Migration Lawyer at HTW Legal. Ton was admitted as a solicitor of the Queensland Supreme Court in 2014. He completed his Bachelor of Law in the University of Queensland, before the Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice in Bond University. Ton has practiced exclusively in migration law. He grew up in Hong Kong and is fluent in Cantonese and English. He has worked with leading national corporations and has a strong reputation and proven success rate particularly on employer-sponsored visas and investment visas. Turning to other visa cases, Ton has an interest in criminal law and has succeeded in having visas reinstated after they were cancelled due to character concerns and criminal records.

Ton has developed practical and down-to-earth advice to clients. He understands the difficulties and the needs of clients during the process and strives to make the process clear, simple, fast and stress-free.

Nicholas Chang


Nicholas was admitted as a Solicitor in the Supreme Court of Queensland in
2012. Backed with a wide range of experience in Corporate Commercial,
Business Advisory and Property Matters, Nicholas joined the HTW Legal on it’s
incorporation in 2020.

Regularly acting on behalf of his overseas clients as their international legal
counsel, Nicholas has extensive experience in International Law, specifically in
the Asia Pacific regions.

Jim wilson

- Senior consultant

Jim is admitted to the Supreme Court of Queensland as a solicitor. Jim has extensive experience spanning over the past 45 years which includes commercial experience as a General Manager and Company Secretary, Chief Operating Officer, Managing Director and Legal Practice Director of his own law firm.    

Jim’s key areas of practice are Legal Compliance, Estate Planning and Wills, Commercial Property, General Commercial and Company Law.

Jim is an experienced and highly effective solicitor and advocate whose capabilities are uniquely supported by senior corporate leadership positions in a diverse range of industries.

His interests outside of the law are kayak paddling, swimming and gardening.

Desmond Lieu

- Senior Solicitor

Desmond is admitted to the Supreme Court of Victoria as a solicitor. He speaks English,  Mandarin, Cantonese and Vietnamese.

Desmond’s areas of practice are property law (commercial and residential conveyancing, property development, leasing and project management), Commercial (franchising, company structures and compliance, intellectual property, tax advice and sale and acquisition of businesses) and Commercial Litigation.

Desmond is focused on providing prompt, concise service and advice to his clients.

In his spare time Desmond enjoys reading science fiction novels.

Kayla He

Currently pursuing her Juris Doctor at Griffith University, Kayla is not only a dedicated paralegal but also holds NAATI certification as an interpreter in Mandarin and English, showcasing her linguistic prowess.

Fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin, and English, Kayla’s linguistic skills contribute significantly to her versatility and effectiveness in various professional settings. She joined the HTW team in 2022, bringing her unique set of skills and passion for the legal field to the table.

Outside of work, Kayla enjoys an active and vibrant life. She’s into sports, highlighting her commitment to a healthy lifestyle. Kayla is also a talented singer, finding joy in expressing herself through music. Most importantly, she values spending quality time with her family, creating a perfect balance between her professional and personal life.
